The Difference Between the Gospel and Religion

The good folks of The Journey in St. Louis have put together this nice chart.

This kind of distinction is good for believers and unbelievers to
hear.  Believers need it because the default mode of the human heart is
towards the "religion" way of thinking.  Unbelievers need to hear it
because they think we are calling them into religion when in fact the
Gospel is an entirely different way of living.

The Life of David Brainerd

David
Brainerd
was a missionary to the American Indians who lived
during the early 1700s, before the American Revolution. He was
rarely in good health, but poured out his life in taking the gospel
to Native Americans. A friend of Jonathan
Edwards
he died at Edwards’ house at age 29, while being cared
for by one of Edwards’ daughters, Jerusha, who died not long
after.

At the time of his death, he consented to allow Jonathan Edwards to
publish his diary & other private writings. To these, Edwards
appended a brief biography of David Brainerd. This work was a major
impetus and inspiration to the domestic and foreign missionary
movement of the late eighteenth and through the nineteenth century.
Since it’s writing, it has never been out of print.

ChristianAudio has put out an
audiobook version of ‘The Life of David Brainerd.’
For the
month of October, it is FREE to anyone interested.

Now, the warning…I have read the book and it is quite good. I
listened to the beginning of the audio, and it did not captivate me
as much as the book, but I only listened to the first 2-3 minutes.
Soooooo….if you like audiobooks, you may enjoy this one. If
you’re more of a reader, then pick up a copy of the book…either
from a bookstore
or find a public-domain
copy
.

Do You Facebook?

FBC @ FacebookAbout a week and a half ago, I joined Facebook to see how many FBCers use it as a way of keeping in touch.  Thinking that it could be a way of extending community and outreach…

Preliminary conclusion = most everyone who’s under 30 has a Facebook account.  If you’re over 30, you do not.  (Maybe you’re LinkedIn?)  In fact, you may be saying…what is Facebook?

A likely reason lies in the origins of Facebook on college campuses…and possibly the predatory vibe that MySpace gave to social networking.

BUT…if you are on Facebook…know that there is now a Faith Bible Church – Murrieta group.  Join up, post pictures, write on the wall, start discussions, do whatever it is you do on Facebook. Smiley
